Mapping the misuse of generative AI

A study published in Nature Human Behaviour examined the most common misuse cases for which advanced AI assistants are being developed, as well as potential risks and mitigation strategies. The authors identified five major categories of misuses, including personal data protection, political disinformation, cybersecurity threats, social and cultural harm, and human-machine interactions. They also highlighted the need for comprehensive evaluations of institutions that could help manage these opportunities and mitigate risks, suggesting frameworks such as philosophy to identify fair principles for ethical AI application.
