TacticAI: an AI assistant for football tactics

Through AI research, the authors of TacticAI aimed to create an assistant for football tactics that could help expert coaches detect patterns and aid their decision-making on the field. The project involved a collaboration between Google DeepMind and Liverpool FC, with contributions from several experts in sports analytics, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Through testing environments, the researchers were able to build and refine AI systems that could generate tactical recommendations for football teams based on real game play data and player data. The authors acknowledged that achieving this goal required a deep understanding of human and animal motions, motor control, and embodied intelligence, and it’s significant achievement in developing AI research out of the lab and into the real world.
